You can now wear swimwear that’s made from mesh material, the makers of swimwear materials say.
The company behind the technology, Materialise, has announced a partnership with a leading Australian clothing company that will allow customers to buy mesh garments that will cover a range of body types.
Materialise is one of a number of Australian clothing companies to have begun working with Australian-based fabric supplier Synnex, which makes mesh fabrics for use in garments.
The new mesh material can be used to create lightweight, breathable fabrics that absorb water, protect against wind and snow and can be woven into garments.
In a press release, Synnex said its fabrics can be made with “a wide range of colours, shapes and sizes” to suit people’s body shapes and body sizes.
“The Materialise technology is a new way to produce fabric that is easy to use, and yet still able to provide a range that fits all shapes and dimensions,” Synnex CEO Steve Dickson said.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Synnex to offer our customers the ability to fabricate the very best materials for their clothing, to be used in any number of ways.”
It’s a great opportunity to expand our range and expand our reach.
“Mr Dickson added that Synnex’s materials would be made in the country that the company was based, and not overseas, to ensure that they met Australia’s environmental requirements.”
There are so many variables that affect the quality and durability of fabrics, and we want to ensure the fabrics we’re making meet Australia’s standards,” Mr Dickson explained.
The mesh technology has already been used in the clothing industry, including in the US where a company called Synthetic Fabric has made swimwear out of its fabric.
The Synnex deal comes amid a rise in interest in the use of mesh in the fashion industry.
In 2016, the Australian government introduced legislation to allow businesses to use materialised fabrics for their own garments.
According to the Australian Clothing Industry Association (ACIA), the industry will need more than 300m menswear products to meet the 2020 target of 50% mesh by 2020.”
More than 1.3 million men and women are wearing swimwear, and the trend is set to continue to grow,” ACIA president Mark Scott said.
