With the German Cup final on Saturday, we are looking back on the Bundesliga’s best moments of the year.
The Bundesliga, which started in 1888, is the world’s most popular sport and has won three titles and the Champions League since it was established in 1992.
The competition is played in eight different regions, covering the northern, central and eastern halves of the country.
The competition is currently in its sixth season and it is now just two seasons since the last trophy was won in the final of the German national team’s final World Cup qualifying match against France.
The winner of the Bundesliga in 2019, Bayern Munich, qualified for the 2019 World Cup via the European Qualifiers.
After winning the league title in 2017, Borussia Dortmund qualified for next year’s Champions League and secured a place in the knockout stages with the same performance as the final.
The German side will face rivals Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals.
In addition to their Bundesliga title, Boras will also have a chance to win the domestic cup with a win in this year’s competition.
After beating Werder Bremen in Berlin in the first leg of the championship on Sunday, Bayern’s star player Bastian Schweinsteiger will also get a chance for his first major trophy.
The German international, who had previously won the Bundesliga with Werder in 2014 and 2016, has played more minutes in the Champions league this season than any other player.
The 23-year-old also scored twice for Bayern as they beat Manchester United 3-1 on Sunday.
This season, the German side have won six league titles, three German cups and reached the Bundesliga final twice.
In the Champions Cup, Boro beat Bayer Leverhausen 2-1 at the Allianz Arena in Berlin.
A Bayern side that had qualified for this year the Europa League by beating Barcelona on penalties, but were knocked out by Juventus in the Europa final, will be looking to avoid a repeat of that performance in the Bundesliga finals.
Borussia Dortmund will face Borussia Mönchengladbach in the second leg of their semi-final.
In this year´s Champions League, Borus have won the competition with two consecutive victories over Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Mönchentnich, who also played for Borussia, will need a strong performance to guarantee their place in Germany’s second major competition.
In all, four teams from Germany will play in the 2019 Champions League.
They are Borussia Bremens, Bayern München and Borussia Monchenglads.
